What is Happing NOW

Hello, again, my Brothers and Sisters in Christ. You may recall an earlier request for volunteers in Sellers, SC, a small poor community that suffered greatly from hurricane Matthew in October, 2016. We have been housed at the Library / Community Center, sleeping on cots and using a primitive shower. We have been making home repairs including electrical and installing sheetrock and flooring. We still have floors to repair, minor roof repair and electrical to do. More needs to be done.  ABMen-USA are planning to return to Sellers on Monday, May 15,  to Saturday, May 20, 2017. Yes, this is the day after Easter Sunday. Please consider how many days you can participate. The people of Sellers are very friendly, engaging and appreciative of any help they receive and they are very deserving. Please contact me and let me know what days you plan to be there so we can prepare for you. You will need a sleeping bag, (or sheets and blanket) pillow, toiletries, towel and wash cloth, etc. You may bring any personal tools if you want. Please contact me at the e-mail address or phone number below. Thanks, again for all y’all do for our Ministry and for the Lord in being the hands and feet of Christ.

Re:      Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Membership Policy

The American Baptist Men’s Ministry, ABMen-USA, has been ministering to the needs of men for over 90 years. The following are our Mission and Vision statements:

MISSION STATEMENT of ABMen USA:  To bring men and boys into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.

VISION STATEMENT of ABMen USA:  To enable men and boys to strengthen their relationship with Jesus Christ so they will become biblical men for mission and outreach.

Although we are a “Men’s Ministry”, we have many women who participate with us in our activities, including special projects and Disaster Relief. Any American Baptist Man or men from other denominations may participate in our Ministry; however, leadership positions are held by ABMen.

The Executive Board of ABMen-USA agree with the American Baptist Churches-USA Policy Statement of November 2005 which states that we are a Biblical People: “Who submit to the teaching of Scripture that God’s design for sexual intimacy places it within the context of marriage between one man and one woman, and acknowledge that the practice of homosexuality is incompatible with Biblical teaching.”

Therefore, as President of ABMen-USA, I affirm our decision that the American Baptist Men-USA continue to support the current BSA membership policy and we do not support changing it. However, should the BSA change that current membership policy, the ABMen-USA Executive Board and membership will determine the future of our relationship with the BSA  at our Annual Meeting in Kansas in June of this year.

In Christ’s Love,

Kenna “Lucky” Ray

President, ABMen-USA
